The Scene: 4 years ago in ramshackle saloon south of Los Angeles.
It is 11 p.m. and I am at a Mexican joint which has no discernible name. Loud accordion based rock plays in the background and if the television was playing the program "America's Most Wanted" the bar would clear out in seconds.
I am drinking tequila shooters and eating sublime fish tacos with my new friend Nora. She is telling me what it is like to work at Disney as a Minnie Mouse human puppet. Eventually I ask her where we should go next and she pauses and says,
"I have to go on to my second job. A woman can not live on mouse alone." she smiles.
I ask her about the nature of her alternate employment. She tells me she is a dancer and my brain locks. I wonder to myself as to why a ballet dancer has to go off to work at midnight? I finally get it and say,
"I am not sure one of your jobs suits you."
She kisses me on the cheek and walks out of my life forever after saying, "You lie so eloquently."

You have the best stories.
mary, thanks, that is nice of you to say. I enjoy your blog as well.
I have to agree with Mary. You do have great stories and you tell them so well.
Do you ever wonder what happened to her 4 years later?
and you say romance dies with age...
:)
You should write, Laochie. You bring words to life and turn them into breathing images in my head.
'Accordian based rock.' That's almost more wrong than a pole-dancing Minnie.
I, too, am a Laochstory fan.
I vizualized the whole scene in black and white like an old movie.
Casablanca, maybe?
I've never had a fish taco, but have heard they are to die for....
and yes..that is what I took away from this post. I am totally weird!
debbie, thanks that is kind of you to say.
elaine, hopefully she is flourishing in anew career.
hk, perhaps the romance is all around you just have to recognize it.
jane, the accordion is mighty!
wo, it was really a techno-color special. Think bikers on crystal meth.
dead, I love that movie.
