I was sitting across from two young women on the Blue Line last evening when I overheard this conversation.
Woman One: "What is our plan tonight?"
Woman Two: "Same as every other night I guess. Soothing ourselves with martinis, picking up lamentable men and the standard self loathing in the morning."
elisabeth, I find it interesting to observe people these days, but I am less certain than I used to be, as to how they should conduct themselves. As long as they aren't actively hurting others, I guess they can choose whatever path they want, no matter how self harmful it might be.
I find it a bit depressing.. first that they have to plan, second that the plan is the same every night, (a little contraction there, no?) and finally the content of their plan. I prefer to go into the city and engage in some people/dog watching (ha ha)
I find it sad, but my personality would probably give that away, if they were fine with it no problem, but that their actions make them feel bad in the morning... Maybe they do need to try dog watching, or blogging...
I applaud people who find something that works and stick with it! This would have been my paln for the evening most nights before I was 40. On my 40th I stopped drinking altogether. I am proabaly a lot better, but I ain't a whole hell of a lot happier...

LOL.. so nonchalant about it to.
sprite, one has to admire their fine attitudes.
A wonderful understatement here, Laoch. How profound, how sad.

I mean "contradiction", lost part on the way
I don't suppose you got a phone number...
LOVE that last comment before mone..mooderino. And I love the sardonic humor expressed by the riders of the Blue line.
Are you sure they aren't aware that a writer is listening in on their conversation? Sounds so polished and appropriately cynical.
belgium, I like dog watching too.
mooderino, no, sadly.
ro, it is often a sardonic group as a lot of students ride that line.
yat-yee, for a lot of people making their life into a kind of theater is something they strive for.
Who am I to judge? ;)
ac everyone gets to judge, which is what is great about our world.
lamentable men! Somehow that still sounds appealing...
karen, !
Haha! And if you were a lamentable man, that would've been your cue to make your move :p

Pretty hilarious, but that was my life in my 30's.... just saying...
Lisa
manders, sadly I can be pretty lamentable.
