“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.”
Winston Churchill
In our dreams we all have a script to follow. We are the hero in a complicated and epic drama, filled with twists and turns and daring deeds. There are obstacles to be faced, battles to be fought, hearts to be won. There will be moments where we doubt our own courage and where we are forced to question the things that are dear to us. We will not bow or yield though. We will rise to fight for what is right, to do honor to our convictions and embrace our dreams. Honor will be restored and our bloodied head can be held high.
And then we wake up and open our eyes and become who we really are.
“…I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they will sing to me.
I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.”
T. S. Eliot from “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”

A Cynical Poem
Web awards
An award of 5, I am impressed!
It seems your site’s among the best -
Oh! Let me check, oh, let me see,
How you’ve done so brilliantly!
Ah, you give awards and ….. wait – that’s it ?
But otherwise your site is shit?
It seems you haven’t much to say,
An echo of the world today,
Empty, vacant, void and bare,
There’s nothing here that you can share.
Why don’t you save us all some strife,
And go and get yourself a life!
(Please note, this poem is about all the bloody silly blogs and web pages out there, and is definitely NOT aimed at you)
tsb, I think it is often hard to say something interesting. I do agree though, that we live in a congratulatory society where empty accomplishment is often lauded and real value is often unrecognized.
I like your quotes and what I am assuming is your writing in the middle. I'm not understanding the twisted S.B.'s response, even with the explanation.
Kass, I thank you for your kind words.
you are in the company of great men
Beautiful.
I've always enjoyed visiting..I always will.
T.S. Eliot's words are achingly sad.
"I do not think they will sing to me." It's one of the saddest lines ever written I think.
All of the above (post).
Sometimes getting through life is the heroic act.
belgium, we all stand on the shoulders of those more accomplished than ourselves.
pl, thanks.
katie, it is nice to see you.
kerry, so true.
dbs, it is a really beautiful poem.
ac, agreed.
Wish I were there. My camera would be hot from all the pictures I would be taking.
