Warming the Soul

"You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun."

From "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Eric Clapton and Martin Sharp

My soul is feeling cold today as we face another January day.  Undaunted I am making hot toddies.  You can join me in the following defrosting recipe if you dare:

Hot Buttered Rum

  • 4 ounces of dark rum
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 pats of butter
  • small bit of cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • hot water

Boil some water.  Combine the rum, cinnamon, honey and butter in a warmed mug.  Add the boiling water and gently stir while sprinkling nutmeg on top.  Drink with gusto.  Repeat if necessary.  Turn on the television, you need the injection of mindless drivel.  After a suitable period of time go for a jog, some suffering is mandated for all of us.

What a drag that I'm at work! One of these would go down well...
I listen to Led Zep's Kashmir to warm up but your quote is excellent. Must go search and put it on.

katnip, the quote is from a song by the 1960s band, Cream - The song is "Tales of Brave Ulysses."

Four ounces of rum, Laoch? FOUR OUNCES? AND THEN DRINK ANOTHER??? Oh that'll fix it, alright.

Karen, carpe diem.

I just looked & we have everything but the rum. It's a rum-bummer.

kerry, I fear that the rum really is a crucial ingredient here.

Or you could just have the rum.
