What a coinkidink. My best friend made this for dinner early last week. By the time Maggie and I were halfway done, we were already sniffling, with sweat beads ready to form. This is one helluva spicy dish.

So did Satan escort and accompany you to lunch/dinner?

sprite, it really was quite good. The restaurant specializes in food from Yunnan Province so the food is a little different than you would get if it was a Sichuan based place.

tsb, it is a bit spicy and also has Sichuan peppercorns so it is a bit numbing.

meg, I will save some for you next time.

jolene, my capacity to eat spicy things is quite high so i do not find it very spicy but I assume most people do. It is pretty easy to make if you can get all the ingredients so it is a decent thing to make at home. Satan always represents well and is a witty if somewhat dangerous eating companion.

Oh, you are one of those people with a tongue/pallet of steel. I'm envious. I’d like to think of myself as a spicy person. I’d like to think I could handle scorching hot. I’d probably even lie to someone if they asked if I could handle the hot stuff. But seriously, I’m kind of a pansy. Nevertheless, I enjoy spicy foods.

Sounds like very good company.

That's enough ‘cyberstalking' for me today ;)

Jolene, spice tolerance builds up over time. It really just means that I am an endorphin junkie.

To be honest, it doesn't look nice to me ... but I bet it tastes good.

Sym, the way it is cooked makes the meat melt in your mouth. It is in fact much better tasting than it looks.

Aha. Another great use for the sichuan peppercorns residing in my pantry. Yunnan beef.

You are driving me crazy !
Ethnic food envy.... as much as I love living in Tucson, which is a very big foodie town, I miss all the Asian food at my fingertips when I lived in California.
I am dieing here, pass me the bowl now ! please !

cheers, parsnip

Kerry, one really likes sichuan peppercorns. Fuschia Dunlop has written some books that have some good ideas for the use of the peppercorns in cooking.

Laoch of Chicago said...

Ap, I have lived in places like that. I feel your food pain.

it may well be delicious. The picture looks very appetizing, but every time I read "BOILED beef," I want to throw up just a little bit. Just call it Sichuan Beef. There, that's better.
